Late Pajama Stars

It was exactly 6:00 AM
On latitude 43.04 North
Beginning this calendar day of September 22

My skin was seeking the remaining
Cold night air as I poked myself
Through the door
Placing bare feet bottoms on chilly concrete

A weak voice called my eyes
And I looked 80 degrees skyward south
Through tree silhouettes
To the soft pale blue warp and weft

The bright star speck was arresting
And the bright dawning moment too

As I waved my gaze from right to left
Another but more brilliant light
Called out…that one Venus
So intensely round as to hurt

In my pajamas I was pierced
And locked
And my skin informed me
That it was cold outside

I turned and walked back in
From the blue and the cold…
Feeling
